What Does being compliant mean?

Queensland domestic dwellings must be fitted with Interconnect Photoelectric Smoke Alarms.

These alarms must be photoelectric (AS 3786-2014), interconnected (activate together) and fitted in:

  • All bedrooms;
  • Hallways which connect bedrooms;
  • On every story; and
  • When there are no hallways, on the path most likely used to exit the dwelling.

 

This is required by 1/1/2022 if the property is rented/managed and all other owner occupier domestic dwellings by 1/1/2027

must be replaced within 10 years of the manufacture date

must be either hard wired or powered by a stand alone radio frequency alarm with a non-removable 10 year battery

Tenants

Must continue to test, clean and replace flat batteries at least once every 12 months

Advise the property owner/manager if there is any issue with the alarm (apart from batteries).

Allow the property owner/manager right of entry to install smoke alarms.

Must not remove a smoke alarm or the battery (other than to replace it), or do anything to reduce the effectiveness of the alarm e.g. paint it.
